Pony Club Racing Instruction Day a great success
Monday, March 03, 2008
The Pony Club held the first ever racing instruction day on Monday 18th February at Hartpury College, Gloucestershire. The event was a great success with 135 members attending, accompanied by 140 parents, instructors and branch officials.

The highlight of the day for the children was being taught by some of the nation’s top jockeys. In attendance were John Francome, Peter Scudamore, Steve Smith Eccles, Marcus Armytage, Richard Killoran and Robert (choc) Thornton.

As well as actually having a go at starting and going over a fence, the Pony Club members were taught about fitness and feeding, racing rules and race day etiquette, racing safety, plus they were provided with equicisor instruction and top tips on how to get into the sport.
Pony Racing is a relatively new discipline within The Pony Club; it is entirely for amateur riders and is open to all Pony Club Members. Its aims are simply to encourage youngsters to try the discipline of racing, and to identify outstanding talent.
